Sanno-machi Stationery

A completely handmade writing set inspired by Sanno-machi Historic District in Takayama City, Japan, a beautiful castle town surrounded by mountains in every direction that survives in a splendid state with many old homes, shops, coffee houses and sake breweries, some of which have been in business for centuries.

With 10 sheets of paper in 2 models and 5 envelopes all in different designs, each piece of the set is printed individually by hand with hand-carved lino blocks and a vivid indigo blue ink for a finish inspired by Japanese kogin sashiko stitching and its distinctive appearance employing white thread over solid indigo fabric.
